Rosario
South America is the fourth largest continent of the Western Hemisphere. It is divided politically into 12 independent countries namely Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela and the overseas department of French Guiana. The continent extends to 7,640 kilometers from Punta Gallinas, Colombia, in the north to Cape Horn, Chile, in the south. At its broadest point, near where it is crossed by the equator, the continent extends to 5,300 kilometers from east to west. Rosario is the largest city of the province of Santa Fe, Argentina, and the third most populous in the country, after Buenos Aires and Cordoba. It is located 300 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires, on the western shore of the Parana River. It had 909,397 residents as per the 2001 census. Rosario is the head town of the Rosario Department and is situated at the core of the most important industrial corridor in Argentina. The city is a major shipping center and the railroad terminal for northeastern Argentina. Ocean steamers reach the city via the Parana River, which allows the existence of a 34-feet deep port. Along with Parana, Rosario is one of the few Argentine cities that cannot point to a meticulous individual as its founder. Rosario is a significant educational center on the national as well as international level. It is the home of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, UNR ever since 1968, and of a regional faculty of the National Technological University, UTN, which are both public and free. Also the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina, UCA, the Austral University, the University of the Latin American Educational Center, UCEL and the Interamerican Open University, UAI, which are private institutions. Its municipality comprises of 178.69 square kilometers, of which 117 are urbanized, in 6,306 housing blocks. This city has about 40 urban bus lines, and numerous short-distance lines that serve the whole metropolitan area. The city is characterized by an intense cultural activity in many art disciplines, with a national and international reach. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, luxurious hotels and cottages, Rosario is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
