Olinda
South America is the fourth largest continent of the Western Hemisphere. It is divided politically into 12 independent countries namely Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela and the overseas department of French Guiana. The continent extends to 7,640 kilometers from Punta Gallinas, Colombia, in the north to Cape Horn, Chile, in the south. At its broadest point, near where it is crossed by the equator, the continent extends to 5,300 kilometers from east to west. South America is connected to North America by the Isthmus of Panama. It is washed on the north by the Caribbean Sea, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. Olinda is one of cities in South America. The settlement of Olinda was founded in 1535 by Duarte Coelho Pereira it had been elevated to town in March 12, 1537. Olinda was the capital of the captainship of Pernambuco, but was flared up by Dutch, which translated the capital to Recife. Besides its natural beauty, Olinda is also one of the most important Brazil's cultural centers. Declared, in 1982, as historical and cultural patrimony of humanity by the UNESCO, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It is a city in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, located on the country's northeastern Atlantic Ocean coast, north of Recife and south of Paulista. It has a population of 376,800 people in 2005 and is one of the best-preserved colonial cities in Brazil. Olinda has a lot of tourist attractions such as a historic downtown area, churches, and carnival. The carnival in Olinda is a popular street party, very similar to traditional Portuguese carnivals, with the addition of African influenced dances. Unlike Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, in Olinda there is no need to pay for the best places. All the party is on the streets. There are hundreds of little musical groups in various categories. Due to its many historic events and places it has been one of the favorite destinations of visitors. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
