Maracaibo

South America is a continent situated in the western hemisphere and, mostly, the southern hemisphere, bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean, North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. Venezuela is a country on the northern tropical Caribbean coast of South America.

Maracaibo is the second largest city in Venezuela after the national capital Caracas and is the capital of the Zulia state, one of Venezuela's 23 states. The 1990 census assigned a population of 2,650,670, a number that many considered to be understated. Maracaibo is nicknamed as La Tierra del Sol Amada or The Land Beloved by the Sun.

Maracaibo has become a big metropolitan city, comprised of two municipalities, to the north the municipality of Maracaibo and to the South the San Francisco municipality which was established in 1995. In the recent years due to political, economic and cultural reasons many have moved to Maracaibo from rural areas and other cities, including Caracas. Many consider Maracaibo to have all the good things Caracas has like education, night clubs and healthcare without the drawbacks like traffic, pollution, crime and garbage.

The dense Amazon rainforest, the jagged spires of the Andes Mountains, the Tropical beaches and the Towering waterfalls, with this kind of nature all around, it's no wonder why South America have become nearly synonymous with Adventure travel and ecotourism.
