Maipu
South America is a continent situated in the western hemisphere and, mostly, the southern hemisphere, bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean and on the north and east by the Atlantic Ocean, North America and the Caribbean Sea lie to the northwest. Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a country in South America occupying a long coastal strip between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Maipu, founded on February 16, 1821, is a municipality or comuna of Chile located in the southwest of the province of Santiago, in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, a landlocked administrative region in central Chile. The area has an historical importance because it was the place of the Battle of Maipu which took place on the 5th of April 1818, where Chile's independence was consolidated. It is also the place of the Maipu Votive Temple, a majestic architectonic construction made to honor the Virgen del Carmen. Maipu has a population of 468,390 inhabitants, as of 2002, living in an area of 133 square kilometers. Inhabitants are mostly middle class, with an average household income of 18,429 US dollars in PPP, Purchasing Power Parity, as per figures in the year 2000.
The dense Amazon rainforest, the jagged spires of the Andes Mountains, the Tropical beaches and the Towering waterfalls, with this kind of nature all around, it's no wonder why South America have become nearly synonymous with Adventure travel and ecotourism.
