La Asuncion




South America is thefourth largest continent of the Western Hemisphere. It is divided politically into 12 independent countries namely Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela and the overseas department of French Guiana. The continent extends to 7,640 kilometers from Punta Gallinas, Colombia, in the north to Cape Horn, Chile, in the south. At its broadest point, near where it is crossed by the equator, the continent extends to 5,300 kilometers from east to west.
 
La Asuncion is a city in Venezuela. The capital of Nueva Esparta state, it lies on the Isla Margarita in the Caribbean Sea, off the South American mainland. Owing to its settlement by Spain in 1524, many colonial buildings still remain. Asuncion, population is 1,639,000 in 2002 and is the capital of Paraguay. Its metropolitan area, named Gran Asuncion, includes the cities of San Lorenzo, Fernando de la Mora, Lambare, Luque, Mariano Roque Alonso, Nemby and Villa Elisa and having more than 1.5 million inhabitants.
 
Asuncion is located right next to the Paraguay River whose banks offer a beautiful landscape. Places like Cerro Lambare is a hill located in Lambare offer a spectacular show in the spring because of the lapacho trees in the area. The city is home to the Godoy Museum and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, the Church of La Encarnacion and the Cathedral, and the Panteon Nacional de los Heroes, a smaller version of Les Invalides in Paris, where many of the nation's heroes are entombed.
 
La Asuncion is also one of the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destinations that enjoy a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers to become one of the most visited places.
