Puerto Santa Cruz

South America is thefourth largest continent of the Western Hemisphere. It is divided politically into 12 independent countries namely Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela and the overseas department of French Guiana. The continent extends to 7,640 kilometers from Punta Gallinas, Colombia, in the north to Cape Horn, Chile, in the south.

Puerto Santa Cruz is a province of Argentina that is located in the south of the country, in Patagonia. It borders with the province of Chubut to the north and Chile to the west and south. The Tehuelches resided on this area before the arrivals of the Spanish colonization. In 1520, Ferdinand Magellan came to what is presently called, San Julian Bay. After fifteen years, Martin de Alcazaba searched the area near the Chico River that he named as Gallegos River. Due to the attacks of British pirates and after the visit of Francis Drake in 1538, the Spaniards sent Pedro Sarmiento de Gamboa to strengthen the Strait of Magellan and avoid the pirates to reach the Pacific Spanish posts.

The beaches of Puerto Santa Cruz are a mixture of long beaches with cliffs. In Gran Bajo de San Julian, the Laguna del Carbon is 105 meters below the sea level. It is the lowest point in the Western and Southern Hemispheres. Its normal temperatures are 13 degree Celsius in summer and 3 degree Celsius in winter. Its most visited destination is the Los Glaciares National Park and a several glaciers of which the Perito Moreno Glacier is the most famous. Nearby El Calafate has an airport, which links the area with Buenos Aires and Trelew. 200 kilometers north of El Calafate is the El Chalten village, at the feet of the Cerro Torre and Mount Fitz Roy.
Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace. Puerto Santa Cruz enjoys a positive reputation with worldwide travelers.
