Curico
South America is the fourth largest continent of the Western Hemisphere. It is divided politically into 12 independent countries namely Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela and the overseas department of French Guiana. The continent extends to 7,640 kilometers from Punta Gallinas, Colombia, in the north to Cape Horn, Chile, in the south. At its broadest point, near where it is crossed by the equator, the continent extends to 5,300 kilometers from east to west. Curico Black Water in Mapudungun originally meaning Land of Black Water is the name of a city and capital of Curico Province, concern of a Region del Maule in the central valley Chile. It was founded in 1743 by Jose Manso de Velasco during a Spanish regime in the Americas and is one of the more cultured and progressive provincial towns of Chile. The province lies between the provinces of Colchagua and Talca and extends from the Pacific to the Argentine frontier. It has an area of 2978 square meters with a population of 102,439 inhabitants as of 2005. The capital is Curico is situated on the Guaiquillo River. The city stands on the great central plain, 748 feet above sea-level and in the midst of a comparatively well-cultivated district. The eastern and western sections are mountainous and are separated by the fertile valley of central Chile. The mineral resources are undeveloped, but are said to include copper, gold and silver. Cattle, wheat and wine are the principal products, but Indian corn and fruit also are produced. On the coast are important salt-producing industries. The main rivers are Guaiquillo and Teno and these are around of the city. The landscape is sway by Andes Mountains and the Coast Mountain. Curico is a city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages. Curico is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
