Andalgala

South America is thefourth largest continent of the Western Hemisphere. It is divided politically into 12 independent countries namely Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela and the overseas department of French Guiana. The continent extends to 7,640 kilometers from Punta Gallinas, Colombia, in the north to Cape Horn, Chile, in the south. At its broadest point, near where it is crossed by the equator, the continent extends to 5,300 kilometers from east to west. South America is connected to North America by the Isthmus of Panama.

Andalgala is a city in the west-center of the province of Catamarca, Argentina, located in a valley near the Sierra de Aconquija, 260 kilometers from the provincial capital San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca. It has about 14,000 inhabitants as per the 2001 census. It is the head town of the department of the same name. The Andalgala River, which flows nearby, supports a hydroelectric power plant. Andalgala was founded as a fort on 12 July 1658, and only became a city in 1952. Its name is of Quechua origin and means either Lord of the Hare or Lord of the High Mountain.

A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Andalgala is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
