South America is the fourth largest continent of the Western Hemisphere. The continent extends to 7,640 kilometers from Punta Gallinas, Colombia, in the north to Cape Horn, Chile, in the south.
 
South America is connected to North America by the Isthmus of Panama. It is washed on the north by the Caribbean Sea, on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. Topographically the continent is divided into three sections namely the South American cordillera, the interior lowlands, and the continental shield. Roman Catholicism is the dominant religion and Portuguese and Spanish are the primary languages of the continent.
 
San Fernando de Apure is one of South America’s most popular destinations, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments. It is a city in Apure State of Venezuela. San Fernando de Apure in its territory can boast the presence of architectural treasures of great interest. The present population of the municipality area is 109,999 inhabitants.
 
San Fernando de Apure was initially founded on February 28, 1788 on the banks of the Rio Apure, Apure River, by Don Fernando de Miyares Gonzalez, the Governor and Captain General of Barinas province, New Granada, with the support of Don Juan Antonio Rodriguez and the Capuchine monk Fray Buenaventura de Benaocaz. On December 1, 1793 it was raised to the status of a town.
 
In spite of the intense urbanization that is undergoing in San Fernando de Apure, the city embraces buildings in a wide range of styles that include neoclassical, modernist, noucentrist and simply eclectic. These memorials commonly include the notable Casa de Bolivar which is a national historical monument, at the intersection of Comercio St. and Independencia St. It is the 18th century armory, and was the dwelling of General Miguel Gerrero. Presently, it comprises a public library as well as the cultural offices of the municipality.
